- Safety-critical product design
- Advanced manufacturing technology
- Reliable quality control
to provide our customers with safe and secure products.
Improving “Battery Pack Performance”
The high-withstand voltage CMOS process used in ABLIC's multi-cell battery protection ICs endows them with high accuracy and low power consumption. These ICs are also provided with the latest distinctive state-of-the-art functions optimized for a variety of applications enabling our customers to create battery packs with the performance they require.
Lineup of “Automotive Grade” High-quality Protection ICs
ABLIC offers a host of products for use in automotive applications.
The development of electric vehicles (EV) and autonomous driving is increasing the demand for batteries as the power source of an automotive system. ABLIC provides a lineup of automotive protection ICs for use in battery management systems (BMS) that manage automotive batteries.
Since automotive protection ICs must satisfy the high quality and high reliability required of automotive applications, we adopt the AEC-Q100 tests of the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) to assess the reliability and quality of our products. They are also PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) capable.
In addition, we can provide protection ICs developed for automotive BMS in accordance with ISO26262 Functional Safety Standard, and a Safety Manual.
ABLIC's automotive protection ICs can be used for automotive applications that require higher safety.
2. Advantage of ABLIC's Battery Protection ICs for Multi-cell Pack
Able to function independent of microcontroller
- ・No need to develop complex control software.
- ・Continuously monitors battery status through stand-alone operation.
- ・Solid hardware protection improves the safety of battery packs.
The addition of protection ICs helps to improve safety
- ・In accordance with UL, IEC and other standards, it may be necessary to implement measures for single faults. Integrating protection IC into the system helps you comply with standards.
Technical capabilities to support the realization of optimal protection circuits
- ・We provide technical support from selecting and combining optimal products to designing customized protection circuits. For details, please contact our sales representatives.

4. Function Description
Cascade Function
This function allows connection of multiple ICs to protect more than the maximum number of batteries possible for a single IC.
With the cascade function you can configure protection circuits for various numbers of batteries using the same series of ICs.

Cell Balancing Function
Repeated charging and discharging may cause a difference (imbalance) in battery voltage due to slight variations in characteristics between lithium-ion batteries, resulting in shorter battery run time.
The cell balancing function uses a bypass route to discharge the battery that first reaches the cell-balance detection voltage in the charging cycle to compensate for any imbalance that may occur.
Related Information
Wake-up Function
The protection circuit board pins must be connected to the battery in the determined order when they are first connected as the secondary protection IC may otherwise output a signal that would blow the protection fuse.
The wake-up function prevents the output of a blown fuse signal until all batteries have been connected regardless of which order the battery and the protection circuit board has been connected in.
